In terms of strange outfits… Bjork > Lady Gaga
In terms of who makes better music… Bjork > Lady Gaga
In terms of who’s nicer to look at… Bjork > Lady Gaga.

I’ve heard people call Lady Gaga an “artist” and Bjork referred to as “that weirdo from Iceland”. No. Just…no. Without even regarding Bjork’s accomplishments as a composer, producer, actress and mentor, her musical achievements alone can bury Lady Gaga. And if you wanna talk fashion, then Bjork’s been doing the innovative, usually crazy and not-what-you’d-wear-on-a-daily-basis fashion statements long before Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta became known as Gaga.

And lastly…at 44 years of age, Bjork is still hella cute. Lady Gaga looks like a transvestite in her 30′s. I photographed Lady Gagita the other day at Fashion Week and the resemblance was just uncanny. I actually prefer Gagita over the original, come to think of it. At least I know one is ACTUALLY a transvestite and the Telephone parody gave me a few laughs.

Basically, Bjork wins at life and Lady Gaga’s a manufactured pop princess who’s made paid to wear weird things for “shock value”. And as much as I love Glee and as epic as their Theatricality episode was, I still think all the fuss about Gaga is bullshit. I just don’t buy into it.

You’re a sweet person. You are extremely talented and you are lovely. But sometimes I wonder if you know how to be a friend sometimes or if you’re just letting your surroundings influence you and turn you into a douche. Believe me, I can understand the need for freedom and to live your life how you wanna live it, but I don’t think you realize how you subtly hurt people in the process. And if you do realize, then maybe you just don’t give a shit, and that makes me doubt everything that I liked about you in the first place.

Snaps from last last (last?) weekend!

FRIDAY
Went to Encore with Dawn and Amanda, was introduced to Martin, G and Aldo, and other people. The night ended in Fiamma, and what a fun night it was! It was awesome seeing Dawn again and I must say that my favourite part of the night was when everyone, for some reason, suddenly became British.

SATURDAY
Bureau for SNL with Yum, Elaine, TJ, Renz, Pam and Toby; ended up seeing other people too, like Paco, Mike, Nic, Alex and Enzo. I’m not really all that big on clubbing but I have to say that Saturday (and Friday) were both fucking great nights! And I managed to not do any major physical damage to myself (like the last time when I was in Bureau and I sprained my ankle). I had a few bruises but that’s just me. I’m a klutz.

SUNDAY
After two nights of booze and loud music in clubs, what better way to end the weekend with, well….booze. But in a much quieter place. A bunch of us headed to Anton’s and his awesome birdcage balcony. I had a good time talking to Val while it was Testosterone City in Anton’s living room with all the boys watching UFC before they joined us on the balcony. Also, Val and I discovered that my camera’s highest ISO is 12,800 which is wicked cool.

Vincent – Tim Burton

I haven’t seen this in quite awhile and was reminded just how much I adore everything about this short. OK…basically I adore Tim Burton. I’d love to pick apart that guy’s brain. Or collaborate with him on a short film. One can only dream!

The Standards are a Thai-Brit band that I met in Bangkok, the first time I stayed for a long ass time there, and I just have to say that I’m so glad I was introduced to them. These guys kick so much ass onstage; their energy is just so massive and infectious! Matt, the vocalist, knows how to handle a crowd and I’ve seen him, way more than once, make the audience do what he wants. They played three shows here in Manila recently and they asked me to snap a few band photos for them after their Saguijo gig, which are the photos in this entry. I’m well excited to go back to Bangkok and see these guys perform again and to take even more photos of them. And, of course, I also can’t wait until they finally release a full album.

To cap this post, here’s their music video for a song called The Proposition:

“Waking up at the wrong time because “PM” instead of “AM” was set up, the page’s left edge rips because the perforations don’t tear cleanly, the other sock in the pair goes missing, and so forth. These are all normal happenings that exist in our imperfect day-to-day lives and this series of simple illustrations points out what a perfect world would be like without such disruptions. It’s an on-going project that I started in order to “celebrate” our everyday nuisances. It can also be seen as a means of discovering things that a lot of different people can relate to and think, “Yes! I hate it when that happens!”"

In A Perfect World by Catrina Dulay.

This is a super cute project! I’m a fan of really clean, simple and minimalistic illustrations and I really did find myself agreeing with the nuisances that were used for the graphics. Especially with missing socks. For the life of me, I can never figure out where the other half has disappeared to. I’ve now come to wearing socks mismatched from different pairs.

My two favourite photos of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. I’d love to be able to look at someone like that.

INFINITY from dean isidro on Vimeo.

Set to The XX’s “Infinity” (great song from their album, by the way), this video is basically a whole song’s worth of fucking amazing shots…oh, and incredible eye candy that was probably designed to make girls all over  jizz in their pants.

Searching for inspiration. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong place. Or maybe I shouldn’t look so hard.

This is frustrating. I’ve been trying to turn this feeling into something productive and creative, but I’m dissatisfied with everything I come up with. I’m drawing a blank. I wish I could be a little kid again. For so many reasons but the main one being that little children notice stuff that we don’t. They see magic in things we probably won’t give a second glance at. Why couldn’t I hold onto that?

I chose to stay in on a Friday night even though I had the option of going out. Kind of starting to regret that decision now, as I sit here with my laptop by my window, chainsmoking. I’m alone with my frustrations.
