The Standards are a Thai-Brit band that I met in Bangkok, the first time I stayed for a long ass time there, and I just have to say that I’m so glad I was introduced to them. These guys kick so much ass onstage; their energy is just so massive and infectious! Matt, the vocalist, knows how to handle a crowd and I’ve seen him, way more than once, make the audience do what he wants. They played three shows here in Manila recently and they asked me to snap a few band photos for them after their Saguijo gig, which are the photos in this entry. I’m well excited to go back to Bangkok and see these guys perform again and to take even more photos of them. And, of course, I also can’t wait until they finally release a full album.

To cap this post, here’s their music video for a song called The Proposition:

Today, a guy next to me almost fell out of a moving train.

I was sitting next to the one of the doors on an old-school, non air-conditioned and extremely rattly train heading to a province just outside Bangkok. At one of the stops, a bunch of people came on, including a really skinny guy who stood next to my seat, holding onto the handrail over his head and he was right in front of the door, which was left open as the train started moving.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the guy sort of slump while still holding onto the handrail. It felt like I was staring at him for a long time, trying to figure out if he was just joking or not. Then, right as I realized that he WASN’T joking, all of a sudden everything moved super fast and before I knew it, the guy’s hand slipped from the handrail and he fell foward, right towards the open door while the train was moving.

I remember yelling and not having enough time to get out of my seat to catch the guy so I reached over my seat and managed to grab onto his leg before he went tumbling out of the train, and so many people were yelling and running forward. The poor unconscious dude was half hanging out of the train, and it was a good thing that he didn’t hurt his head or his hand, and that he didn’t go all the way out of the train. A big guy ran over and was the one who pulled the guy to his feet and sat him down on one of the seats. Skinny dude was totally pale but conscious at this point and everyone fussed over him until he got off the train.

I went back to my music.

Hello, 2010. It’s nice to meet you. I wanted to start a new blog, so I figured I’d do it today.

Rang in the new year with booze and took three million photos. Ended up losing a few things, but at least when I got home I still had my camera and flash unit, phone, wallet & keys. So I’m trying not to be too bummed out.

I’m keeping my resolutions list short & sweet for this year: start getting paid to take photos, lose weight, and maintain a positive attitude. I’m pretty convinced with this whole law of attraction thing.
